Who we are

A community foundation built on a simple belief.

That business people, educators, and neighbors can work together to make dreams possible for students in under-resourced communities.

Project DREAM inspires Twin Rivers students' love of learning and hope for the future by funding college scholarships and experiences in the arts, outdoor education, and field trips beyond their immediate neighborhoods.

Our history

From a game-show ski boat to an entire district

DREAM began in October 2004 in the former North Sacramento School District, where 95% of students qualified for free meals. Local realtor Susan Welch had joined a business leadership group on the TV game show "The Price is Right," and they agreed that any winnings would go to a charity they believed in.

Susan won a ski boat, sold it for $10,000, and donated the proceeds to support homeless and under-resourced students. With administrator Kate Bishop-Hazarian, she recruited business people, educators, and community leaders to build DREAM.

In 2008, four districts merged to form Twin Rivers Unified, and DREAM became its education foundation, now serving 50 schools. From that first $10,000 gift, DREAM has raised and given back more than $500,000 for students in need.

Why Twin Rivers?

The district spans North Sacramento, Del Paso Heights, Foothill Farms, North Highlands, Rio Linda, Robla, Elverta, and North Natomas.

How we are governed

An all-volunteer board, accountable to the community

Project DREAM has no paid staff. Every dollar is stewarded by volunteers who give their time alongside their day jobs.

A volunteer board

Educators, bankers, and local business leaders serve as officers and directors, supported by advisors from the school district.

Monthly meetings

The board meets every month to conduct business and review funding requests from teachers across all 50 schools. You are welcome to join us.

Accountability built in

Every grant recipient completes an evaluation report, so we know the difference each gift made and can share it with our donors.

Non-discrimination policy

Project DREAM serves students and works with volunteers, donors, and partners without discrimination.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital status, or military or veteran status. Concerns may be reported confidentially, including anonymously, through our contact page, and we respond within five business days.

Become part of the story.

Whether you give, volunteer, or simply spread the word, you help a Twin Rivers student reach further than they thought possible.
